The new Fono MM is a moving magnet disc stage which has been designed to be effective, easy to use and above all reproduce music. The new surface mount board layout has been optimised to work with the latest generation of RP turntables.
Inside the Rega Fono (Moving Magnet Version) is a very high quality, all-discreet phono preamplifier in an extruded aluminum chassis. Like their legendary turntables, Rega has focused their attention on sound quality, and this phonostage delivers the analog goods. Rega built their entire reputation on great analog performance and the Fono is a solid reflection of this legacy. The Rega Fono delivers detail and analog warmth and musicality, and sounds like it costs twice as much!
The Fono has been designed to be effective, easy to use, and above all to reproduce music. The input sensitivity has been increased to 1.7mV and the capability to drive lower output loads has been improved. The low frequency response has been slightly extended along with a review and improvements to the capacitors used in critical positions in the circuit, this is to reflect the improvements in the Planar turntables.
The aesthetic design of the Fono was as important as the quality of its electrical capabilities, so it benefits from the same aluminium case as the Rega Ear Headphone amplifier, giving it a design which offers a familiar family feel and moreover brings it in line with its illustrious bigger brothers.
The Fono disk stage is designed to amplify the signal from a moving magnet cartridge to a level which can feed into a 200mV line level input on a standard hi-fi amplifier i.e. with CD or Tuner input.
Please Note: If you have an integrated amplifier with built in phono stage, DO NOT connect the Fono to this input.
