What can one of our subwoofers do for you?

A subwoofer has one simple job to do: that’s to provide deep, powerful bass for your audio system. Some are wireless models designed to integrate with same-brand multiroom wireless audio systems. Some are designed with home theatre applications primarily in mind. Some of the finest are all about the music, designed to blend seamlessly with stand mount speakers to deliver a full audio experience. They range in size from compact to large, and most can be hidden away in the corner of a room where you’ll barely notice them.

What Does A Subwoofer Do?

A subwoofer is designed to create the lowest frequency sounds in a home audio system or home theatre system that normal speakers may not be able to recreate.

By adding a subwoofer to your home audio system, you’ll likely find that the added presence of high-quality bass will create a far more enjoyable, dynamic, and realistic listening experience. If your speakers aren’t fully capable of reaching the bass frequencies below 50Hz, then you may experience distortion when listening to music or movies if they are pushed to try and recreate those notes.

Where Can I Place My Subwoofer?

Unlike regular speakers which need to be correctly placed to ensure a proper stereo or home theatre “image”, the low-frequency notes that a subwoofer creates are omni-directional, meaning that they can be audible anywhere in the room in which they are placed.

However, the low-frequency sound waves will behave differently in your room, depending on where your subwoofer is placed. You may find that regardless of where your subwoofer is placed, there are certain places in your room where the bass notes sound more audile and feel more engaging.

One simple tip for placing your subwoofer correctly in your room is to perform the “subwoofer crawl”. With your subwoofer connected to your audio system, place the subwoofer in your usual listening position - such as on the chair that you’ll normally be seated on - and then move around the room (and around the floor!) until you’ve located the position where the bass notes sound most impactful. This is usually the best place for you to place your subwoofer, and it may be in a corner, against a wall, or even behind you!

Where Should I Place My Subwoofer With A Soundbar?

If you’re using a soundbar with your TV and want to add a subwoofer for a more engaging bass experience, it’s best to place the subwoofer wherever it will create the most audible and enjoyable bass.

If you are using a wired connection from your soundbar, you can move your subwoofer as far as your cable will allow. If you have a wirelessly connected subwoofer, move it around your room as far as you need, provided you are able to keep a stable connection.
