A stereo receiver is effectively a stereo integrated amplifier with a radio tuner built in. So, of course, it has multiple inputs which you can choose from, and it boosts the incoming signal to a level needed to power loudspeakers. Amongst the inputs worth looking for are phono ones so that if you want, you can listen to vinyl.
Don’t confuse stereo receivers with home theatre receivers, even though they can sometimes look somewhat similar. Home theatre receivers are designed for multi-channel – 5.1 or more – sound reproduction. However, in recent years some stereo receiver makers have adopted some of the features from home theatre receivers, such as a subwoofer output which helps if you want to use small main speakers with a subwoofer, and built-in Bluetooth since so much of our music is now accessed through our phones.
At Addicted To Audio we carry several fine stereo receivers from the excellent British firm Cambridge Audio, the top models offering up to 100 watts per channel, and all supporting both Bluetooth and turntables. Check out their feature sets to see which might suit you.
There are two great ways to buy stereo receivers. The best way for most people is at a quality retail outlet in your city. That way you can have a listen, try them out, see which feature set best suits you. But if you’re confident that you already know what you want, consider purchasing your receiver direct from us at Addicted To Audio. We are an authorised Australian reseller for all our products. We provide full service and after sales support. And we ship fast.
